Florence ISD Parents and Community,

I hope that all of you are safe and doing well.

We have been told for the past several weeks that health and safety guidelines would be forthcoming from the TEA regarding the reopening of schools.  The release of this information has once again been delayed.  Commissioner of Education Mike Morath provided some information with regard to remote learning formats but did not disclose any information on the reopening of schools for face to face instruction.   You may be aware through news media that a draft document with this guidance was posted on the TEA website and was quickly taken down.  This document was apparently intended for internal use only.  I can only speculate that recent spikes in the number of cases of COVID–19 may be causing the TEA and the Governor’s Office to rethink and rework guidance documents.  The Commissioner continues to indicate that information will be coming soon.

As I indicated previously, my team and I will continue to monitor the situation and will continue working on contingency plans.  We must be prepared to provide face to face instruction if and when we are allowed to do so.  At the same time, we will prepare to provide some or all instruction using remote learning formats.  Within the next couple of weeks, we will survey parents seeking information that will assist us in the planning process.   Meeting the specific needs of our students and this community remains our highest priority. 

I continue to be impressed with the resilience and the resolve of our parents, students, teachers, staff, and the community as a whole during these very difficult times.  Be assured that we will continue to work tirelessly in service to the students and parents of Florence ISD.
